Hardik Pandya in the DY Patil T20 tournament

Hardik Pandya returns to action after World Cup injury; Dinesh Karthik to skip Dharamsala Test and will be playing the DY Patil T20 tournament

Hardik Pandya will return to competitive cricket in the DY Patil T20 tournament which gets underway today. The Mumbai Indians skipper will turn up for the Reliance team which begins its campaign against Bharat Petroleum. India’s premier all-rounder has been missing from action since injuring his ankle during the 2023 World Cup group stage match vs Bangladesh in Pune and will be leading the Reliance unit also featuring the likes of Tilak Verma, Nehal Wadhera and Piyush Chawla.

As CricketNext had reported earlier, Hardik was put on a high performance program by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) keeping the long-term goal and important white-ball assignments in mind. The 30-year-old has been working hard on his fitness since then and will take field for the first time after over four months.

In another notable development, India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan wasn’t mentioned in Reliance’s Playing XI today and it is understood that the youngster will most likely play for Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the tournament.

Most IPL players use this tournament as an opportunity to get their Indian Premier League preparations underway and with Ranji Trophy group stage already over, top players from the country will participate in the tournament which culminates on March 9.

Dinesh Karthik to take break from commentary

Dinesh Karthik will not be in the commentary box for the fifth India-England Test in Dharamsala, starting on March 7, as the wicketkeeper-batter will be playing for DY Patil B in the T20 tournament.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stumper played the last edition of the tournament too and scored 138 runs in 4 innings at a very impressive strike-rate of 168.29. Karthik’s side featured in the title clash where they lost to Reliance 1 in a last-over thriller.

All matches will be played at DY Patil Stadium and DY Patil University Ground and will see 16 teams, divided in four groups of four, featuring top players in action.

The tournament will be exclusively streamed on the Jio Cinema App.
