Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was completely dejected over the dismissal of his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal as India were chasing 192 in the 4th Test against England in Ranchi. The duo resumed innings on Monday morning at the overnight score of 40 for no loss and added 44 runs to it before Jaiswal was caught by James Anderson off Joe Root’s bowling. The young Mumbai batter looked poised to get a fifth half-century this series which would have let him match the record for most fifties in a Test series against England. But Root foiled his plans by taking him down on 37.

It was the 18th over of India’s chase when Jaiswal decided to smash Root out of the park. But Ben Stokes’ field placements didn’t allow the young batter to flourish. Jaiswal danced down the track for a big shot but ended up slicing it towards backward point. The ball was almost dying when James Anderson made a phenomenal dive to pouch the ball in his hands.
Jaiswal walked off after scoring 37 but the dismissal had left the Indian skipper dejected. As shown in the TV replay, Rohit was upset with Jaiswal’s shot selection and was seen banging his bat on the pitch after rebuking his partner.
After Jaiswal’s dismissal, it was Rohit who led India’s tricky chase with a fine half-century before England spinners slowed their progress to leave them at 118/3 at lunch. Off-spinner Tom Hartley took the prized wicket of the Indian skipper before Shoaib Bashir secured his sixth wicket of the match dismissing an out-of-sorts Rajat Patidar for a six-ball duck.

From there, England kept Gill and Jadeja on a tight leash and would fancy their chances for an unlikely win after taking three wickets in 16 balls of the morning session to derail India’s chase. At lunch, India were 118/3 after Gill and Ravindra Jadeja managed to hold their ground for 45 minutes before the lunch break.
